Basketball Recap: Aaron Zamora's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Salt Lake Academy over Rockwell

Salt Lake Academy played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Rockwell Marshals, falling 62-41. The Griffins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Marshals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2020.

Salt Lake Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Aaron Zamora, who posted 18 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Zamora has posted since back in February of 2024. Braylon Brock was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Salt Lake Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Cesare Baiardi, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 13 boards for Rockwell. Baiardi is becoming a predictor of Rockwell's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is undefeated (and 6-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Elias Sekona, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Salt Lake Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Rockwell, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

When Salt Lake Academy and Rockwell next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Salt Lake Academy will try to stop Utah Military Academy - Hill Field's three-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Rockwell will challenge Non Varsity Opponent and their three-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
