Baseball Recap: Crestline Comes Up Short

Crestline extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping them down to 4-12. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lucas Cubs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cubs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-4 on Monday.

Dawson Hefner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 14 Ks.

On the hitting side, Crew Gaskill made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Quentin Kapp also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

As for Lucas, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games.

On Lucas' side, the team relied heavily on Brady Anschutz, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Anschutz is becoming a predictor of the Cubs' success: when he posts at least one home run the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Zell Finley, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Crestline will square off against South Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lucas, they will face off against Mapleton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
