Softball Game Preview: Mount Airy Granite Bears vs. Elkin Buckin' Elks

Mount Airy hasn't had much luck against Elkin recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Granite Bears will face off against the Buckin' Elks at 6:00 p.m. Mount Airy has given up an average of 12.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Mount Airy's offense. They came up short against South Stokes on Tuesday, falling 13-0. The Granite Bears have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mount Airy saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braelyn Conner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Elkin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 17-1 to East Wilkes, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior.

Mount Airy's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Elkin, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

Mount Airy suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Elkin in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Granite Bears avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
