Softball Recap: Wharton Has No Trouble Against Alonso

It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Wharton ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Alonso Ravens as they made off with an 11-5 victory. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Ravens recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Eliza Connell spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Isabella Bass was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Adriana Cadicamo was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Wharton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alonso only posted a batting average of .171.

The victory got Wharton back to even at 9-9. As for Alonso, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Wharton will look to defend their home field on Monday against Wesley Chapel at 7:00 p.m. Wharton is facing Wesley Chapel at the right time seeing as Wesley Chapel is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Alonso, they will venture away from home to take on Newsome at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
