Baseball Recap: Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Gets the Win

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 12) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Camp Verde Cowboys. This was a revenge game for the Spartans: when they faced off against the Cowboys back in March, they had to take a 13-3 defeat.

Cade Zawada made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. He has become a key player for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brendan MacLean, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Another player making a difference was Jax Zawada, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Camp Verde, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-1 loss against Scottsdale Christian Academy on the 24th. As for Camp Verde, they have also already played their next contest, a 15-0 win against Red Rock on the 24th.
