Volleyball Preview: Willis Wildkats vs. Grand Oaks Grizzlies
Willis is 0-10 against Grand Oaks since September of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, both will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Willis was able to grind out a solid victory over Conroe, taking the game 3-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildkats.
Willis had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Grand Oaks came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the War Eagles as they made off with a 3-0 win.
Grand Oaks never let Oak Ridge on the board, but things got pretty close in the 0th set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-11, 25-19.
Grand Oaks can attribute much of their success to Cali Reece, who had 13 digs, and Hailey Lotspeich, who had eight digs and two aces.
She wasn't the only good server: Grand Oaks was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 aces per game earlier this season, but in their last five games they've averaged 11.
