Football Recap: St. Joseph Starts off Right with Win over Altamont

St. Joseph took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Altamont Longhorns 54-52. This was payback for the Jayhawks, who suffered a 38-20 defeat the last time these two teams met.

St. Joseph can attribute much of their success to Ryan Castaneda, who rushed for 107 yards on only 15 carries. Castaneda's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Izaiah Hebert, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

St. Joseph has already played their next match, a 42-15 loss against Monticello on the 22nd. As for Altamont, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 36-26 win against Utah Military Academy - Camp Williams on the 22nd.
