Basketball Recap: Village Christian Academy Comes Up Short

Village Christian Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Freedom Christian Academy Patriots and fell 63-14. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 612th, while the Patriots are ranked 269th).

Despite the defeat, Village Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Alli Carberry posted eight points.

Leading Freedom Christian Academy to victory were Allison Lett and Zarah Lewis. Lett dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards, while Lewis went 5 of 12 en route to 12 points and four steals. Lett is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylee Powell, who scored eight points and seven boards.

Village Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-16. As for Freedom Christian Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Freedom Christian Academy beat Village Christian Academy by a score of 58-9 on Tuesday.
