Softball Game Preview: Presque Isle Wildcats vs. Hermon Hawks

Presque Isle is 0-10 against Hermon since May of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Hawks at 12:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

While Wildcats fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Wednesday's season opener. They came out on top against Gray-New Gloucester by a score of 15-11 on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Hermon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They never let Lawrence get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Hawks haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Mikelle Verrill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Verrill was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Addy Waning was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Braelyn Wilcox, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Presque Isle might still be hurting after the 12-4 loss they got from Hermon in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
