Baseball Recap: Cheshire Falls Short Against Ranked Xavier

Cheshire faced Xavier in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Rams fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 1-0. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Rams were not able to get on the board.

Dylan Scalice spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Cheshire saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bennett Crerar, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

With the loss, Cheshire broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-7. As for Xavier, they pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Cheshire does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Xavier, they will square off against Lyman Hall at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The last four games the Trojans have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
