Trae Young could have gone anywhere out of
Norman North (Okla.). He was a first team MaxPreps All-American. A McDonald's All-American. His senior season he averaged 42.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
"I wanted to represent my city and my state," he told MaxPreps last spring.
He picked Oklahoma and now the Sooners are part of the NCAA Tournament. Young is the biggest reason for that, even though he's considered small at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds.
Young led the NCAA this season in points (27.4 per game) and assists (8.8 per game) while leading 18-13 Oklahoma into March Madness. The 10th-seeded Sooners open Thursday against seventh-seed Rhode Island in the Midwest regional on CBS. He was the obvious choice as national Freshman of the Year.
Watch and listen to Young's interview with MaxPreps host Chris Stonebraker about expectations before even entering his remarkable freshman season.
