Baseball Game Preview: Brawley Wildcats vs. Palm Desert Aztecs

The Brawley Wildcats will take on the Palm Desert Aztecs at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Brawley comes in on four and Palm Desert on five.

While Brawley's victory against Holtville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats skirted past the Vikings 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since February 27th.

Meanwhile, Palm Desert beat Xavier Prep 6-1 on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Aztecs have won by exactly five runs.

Jake Brande spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mason Smith, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Palm Desert pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Brawley, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
