The Haywood Tomcats will take on the Fayette Academy Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Two weeks ago, Haywood made easy work of Lake County and carried off a 14-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tomcats.
Lillian Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three doubles, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rylee Rimmer was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Smoot, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Haywood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .652. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake County only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Fayette Academy). Everything went their way against Fayette Ware on Monday as Fayette Academy made off with a 17-2 victory. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by 14 runs or more this season.
Like Haywood, Fayette Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: JoAnna Bond. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Bond was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kasey Kimery, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and two stolen bases while going 3-for-3. Those home runs marked the first that she launched this season. Hannah Fly was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
Haywood now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Fayette Academy, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
