Basketball Recap: Martinsville Takes a Loss

Martinsville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They lost 64-41 to the Northview Knights. While losing is never fun, the Artesians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 257th, while the Knights are ranked 43rd).

When it comes to explaining why Martinsville lost, don't look at Grady Gardner. Despite the final result, he shot 47% from the field on his way to 18 points. The game was Gardner's seventh in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zhane Capshaw, who posted eight points and seven boards.

Northview got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Trayven Buis out in front who went 5-for-6 en route to 13 points and six assists. What's more, Buis posted four rebounds, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brayden Goff, who shot 54% from the field to rack up 15 points.

Martinsville's loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Northview, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-1.

Martinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northview, they have already played their next matchup, a 78-68 defeat against Bloomington South on the 27th.
