The Awaken Christian Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Cheyenne Desert Shields at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Awaken Christian will be strutting in after a victory while Cheyenne will be coming in after a loss.
Awaken Christian will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Sandy Valley on Tuesday. The Lions put the hurt on the Sidewinders with a sharp 28-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Sidewinders: they've now won seven in a row.

Jadon Kenney made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
In other batting news, Antonio Rubeis was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Awaken Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Lucas Wulfenstein was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Awaken Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne fell victim to Southeast Career Tech and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Roadrunners, falling 8-0. The Desert Shields have struggled against the Roadrunners recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Cheyenne saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Esai Esparza, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Cheyenne's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Awaken Christian, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Awaken Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .506. However, it's not like Cheyenne struggles in that department as they've averaged .508. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Awaken Christian suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Cheyenne in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
