Montview recap Sept. 26, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to La Puente, who took down 562nd ranked La Puente, 37-7. Kevin Amezquita ran for 153 yards in the win.
Duarte was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in Montview. The Falcons vanquished Ganesha 35-20 earlier in the week.
Jonathan Mora and Lee Jones gave Sierra Vista a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Mora threw for 35 yards and one touchdown, while Jones ran for 362 yards. Luis Verduzco also contributed to the rushing game with 43 yards on the ground.
Jamal Greenfield was the best wideout in the league this week as Bassett fell to Azusa. Greenfield tallied eight receptions for 56 yards. Christopher Rios helped Bassett's passing attack out by catching one ball for 20 yards.
5-foot-9 quarterback Jose Ledesma of the Aztecs is the league leader in passing yards this season with 606. He has also thrown four touchdowns. On the ground, the Dons' Jones has rushed for 993 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Greenfield. The Bassett star has 29 catches for 334 yards.
The top two teams in Montview will face off this week when first place Gladstone takes on second place Sierra Vista. Last week, Gladstone defeated the Warriors, while Sierra Vista topped Workman.
Jones of the Don LeGro's team is only seven yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
There should be lots of points scored when the Dons and Gladstone face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Sierra Vista comes in having scored 144 this season, while Albert Sanchez's team has scored 159. The Dons scored 43 points last week as they bested the Lobos.
The Gladiators extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating La Puente, 37-7. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
