Basketball Recap: Cooper Falls Short Against Ranked Assumption

On Friday, Cooper faced Assumption in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Cooper Jaguars took a 66-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Assumption Rockets. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Rockets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Ashlinn James was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds for Assumption. James is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lauren Campisano, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Cooper's defeat dropped their record down to 20-5. As for Assumption, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-5.

Coming up, Cooper will be playing in front of their home fans against Boone County at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Assumption, they will face off against Brown at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Assumption knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Brown likes a good challenge.
