Softball Game Preview: Plant Panthers vs. Strawberry Crest Chargers

The Plant Panthers will challenge the Strawberry Crest Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Plant is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Plant didn't have quite enough to beat Bloomingdale and fell 6-5. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Bulls: they've now lost five in a row.

Gigi Cozzens was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Plant saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Marina Waygood, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double was Waygood's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Strawberry Crest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against Chamberlain, falling 7-1. Chargers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Storm since on Monday.

Katelyn Watts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

Strawberry Crest's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Plant, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-9.

Everything went Plant's way against Strawberry Crest in their previous matchup back in March, as Plant made off with a 14-8 victory. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
