Softball Recap: Kingsburg Comes Up Short

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Kingsburg and Clovis West, and Clovis West kept the tradition alive. Kingsburg fell just short of Clovis West by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 4-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2022.

Sarah Urbieta was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Woods, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Urbieta wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Kingsburg kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clovis West only managed six hits.

Kingsburg has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. Clovis West pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the victory, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kingsburg will face off against Redwood at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Redwood's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Kingsburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clovis West, they will square off against Central at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
