Basketball Recap: Bayard Takes a Loss

Bayard was the 47-43 winner over Gordon-Rushville when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Bayard Tigers fell 50-37 to the Gordon-Rushville Mustangs on Saturday. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by exactly 13 points.

Despite the loss, Bayard still got an impressive performance from Noah Manka, who posted 11 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Manka a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Connor Posey, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 boards.

Even though they lost, Bayard was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Daniel Martins was a one-man wrecking crew for Gordon-Rushville as he almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. Another player making a difference was Braylon Holston, who went 5 for 7 en route to 11 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Bayard dropped their record down to 1-9 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Gordon-Rushville, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6.

Bayard has already played their next game, a 49-40 loss against Morrill on the 14th. As for Gordon-Rushville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-56 defeat against Hay Springs on the 14th.
