Basketball Recap: Meadowbrook Academy's Loss Ends Five-Game Winning Streak on the Road

It was a good run, but Meadowbrook Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 62-49 to the Trinity Catholic Celtics.

Despite the loss, Meadowbrook Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zach Ross posted 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Ross has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gaige Daugherty, who had 11 points.

Trinity Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Julian Mendez led the charge by going 5 of 11 on his way to 20 points along with eight assists and six boards. Jadiel Jimenez was another key player, putting up 18 points and five rebounds.

Meadowbrook Academy's defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-2. As for Trinity Catholic, they moved to 3-6 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak.

Meadowbrook Academy will take on Cornerstone Academy in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cornerstone Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season. As for Trinity Catholic, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 46-34 win against Mount Dora on the 17th.
