Softball Recap: Three Rivers Drops Season-High Score on Aransas Pass

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Three Rivers). They put the hurt on the Aransas Pass Panthers with a sharp 22-0 win on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bulldogs needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Alyson Gomez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had over her last 15 contests. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three doubles, and four RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kylee Garcia was a standout: she went a perfect 5-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Ruiz, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Three Rivers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Aransas Pass only posted a batting average of .200.

Three Rivers pushed their record up to 12-3-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.75 hits in those games compared to only 4.67 in the others. As for Aransas Pass, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7-1.

Coming up, Three Rivers will host D'Hanis at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Three Rivers' pitching crew has only allowed 1.9 runs per game this season, so D'Hanis' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Aransas Pass, they are taking a road trip to face off against Ben Bolt at 6:00 p.m. on March 11th.
