Football Recap: Elkhart Elks vs. West Rusk Raiders
Elkhart extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 1-4. They took a blow against the West Rusk Raiders, falling 62-13. The Elks lost against the Raiders in their previous head to head back in September of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 28-8 score last time.
Elkhart's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Javon Smith, who picked up 98 receiving yards and one touchdown.
As for West Rusk, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. That looming 62-13 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for them yet this season.
A big part of West Rusk's win came down to the chemistry between Judson Dotson and his top target Kameron Brown. Dotson threw for 211 yards and three TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes while Brown picked up 129 receiving yards and three scores. Brown didn't just play on offense: he also made six total tackles and defended four passes in addition to snagging two interceptions which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. Daylan Williams helped Dotson out on the ground, rushing for 74 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries.
