Softball Recap: Clayton Takes a Loss

Clayton made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Fuquay - Varina, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Comets fell just short of the Bengals by a score of 4-2 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Comets couldn't push the score so high this time.

Izzy Tart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Autumn Joyce made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Clayton's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-7. As for Fuquay - Varina, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season.

Clayton will square off against Corinth Holders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Comets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Fuquay - Varina, they will take on Willow Spring at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bengals' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Storm have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
