Baseball Recap: St. Ignatius College Preparatory's Run of Four Straight Wins Now Over

St. Ignatius College Preparatory dropped their record down to 14-8-2 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Valley Christian Warriors. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Warriors earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

St. Ignatius College Preparatory got a good showing from Spencer Guido, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Guido has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, St. Ignatius College Preparatory saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chase Gordon, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

As for Valley Christian, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-5-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games.

On Valley Christian's side, Christopher Buck looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Buck a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Logan Mull, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Jordan Ortiz also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. St. Ignatius College Preparatory is set to challenge their familiar foe Saint Francis at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wildcats 2.3, the Lancers 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Valley Christian will face off against rival Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
