Baseball Game Preview: Brown City Green Devils vs. Mayville Wildcats

The Brown City Green Devils are taking a road trip to face off against the Mayville Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Brown City took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Sandusky, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Green Devils narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Wolves 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Green Devils have posted since May 20, 2024.

Mayville came out on top against Deckerville on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Wildcats were the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Wildcats have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Luka Campbell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brady Hoag was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ian Estrine, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Mayville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory (which was Mayville's third in a row) raised their record to 7-7. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Brown City, their record is now 6-8.
