Baseball Game Preview: Greer Yellow Jackets vs. Southside Christian Sabres

The Greer Yellow Jackets will face off against the Southside Christian Sabres at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Greer's offense. They lost 10-0 to Daniel on Tuesday. The shutout was out of character for the Yellow Jackets seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in March.

Meanwhile, Southside Christian came tearing into Monday's contest with nine straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 17-2 victory. Considering the Sabres have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on Will Cauthen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

Southside Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .450 or higher in three consecutive games.

Southside Christian pushed their record up to 22-1-1 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Greer, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.

Greer beat Southside Christian 6-3 in their previous meeting back in February of 2019. Do the Yellow Jackets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sabres turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
