Softball Recap: Hillcrest Has No Trouble Against Mauldin

Hillcrest got themselves on the board against Mauldin on Wednesday, but Mauldin never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Mavericks. The win continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Mavericks: they've now won nine in a row.

The result came thanks to Olivia Baker's shutout, as she gave up just four hits.

At the plate, Hillcrest got a big performance out of Skyla Benton, who earned one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases Benton has posted since back in March. Anna Faith Smith also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

The victory got Hillcrest back to even at 10-10. As for Mauldin, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hillcrest will challenge J.L. Mann at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Mauldin, they will square off against Greenville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
