Basketball Recap: Nickerson Takes a Loss

Nickerson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost an 80-77 heartbreaker at the hands of the Plainville Cardinals. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2017.

Defeat or not, Nickerson got some senior leadership from Riley Brawner and Austin Peterson. Brawner dropped a double-double with 28 points and 16 rebounds, while Peterson shot 77% from the field on his way to 23 points in addition to six assists and five boards. Brawner is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Cam Welch, who posted 13 points.

Nickerson's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Plainville, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Nickerson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 67-51 victory against Bucklin on the 13th. Plainville has also already played their next game (against Kinsley), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
