Preview: Southern Wayne Saints vs. East Wake Warriors
After three games on the road, Southern Wayne is heading back home. They will take on the East Wake Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Southern Wayne comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Southern Wayne suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. They suffered a tough 45-22 defeat at the hands of South Johnston. Southern Wayne was down 41-12 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Southern Wayne's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kymora Stokes, who scored seven points, and Jaycee Hargrove who scored five points.
Meanwhile, East Wake had to endure a ten-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They blew past Smithfield-Selma 66-3 at home. East Wake's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Southern Wayne's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-11. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 19.5 points per game. As for East Wake, their win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12.
Southern Wayne didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against East Wake when the teams last played on January 2nd, but they still walked away with a 36-32 victory. Will Southern Wayne repeat their success, or does East Wake have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
