Football Recap: Vista del Lago Ravens vs. Norte Vista Braves
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Vista del Lago can now relate to. They took a 28-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Norte Vista Braves on Friday.
Josiah Dupree-Boyd and Jae'Lynn Brown certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Dupree-Boyd threw for 242 yards and one TD while completing 81.2% of his passes, while Brown picked up 133 receiving yards and one score. Brown showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 63 yards. Malik Ogeare also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 18 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ogeare, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a punt return touchdown from him.
Jyden Henderson was his usual excellent self, rushing for 106 yards and three touchdowns for Norte Vista. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Henderson a new career-high. Dreadie Allain was another key player, rushing for 100 yards and one TD.
Vista del Lago's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Norte Vista, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
Vista del Lago does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Norte Vista, they will challenge Hesperia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Allain and Zamar Malveaux.
