Volleyball Recap: Jacksonville Comes Up Short

If Jacksonville was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Northside - Jacksonville last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cardinals came up short against the West Carteret Patriots on Tuesday, falling 3-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2024.

While Jacksonville was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-19, 25-21.

Athena Teel paced Jacksonville's offense, picking up nine kills. Teel got some help from Grey Williams and her 17 assists. Ava Wilson controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Among those leading the charge was Anna Claire Oakes, who had 17 digs and two assists. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 13 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

Jacksonville's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for West Carteret, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Jacksonville has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Laney on the 20th. As for West Carteret, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Pamlico County on the 21st.
