Football Game Preview: Gladewater Bears vs. Sabine Cardinals

Gladewater is a perfect 7-0 against Sabine since November of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bears will host the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. Gladewater's defense has only allowed 14.2 points per game this season, so Sabine's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Gladewater took a 29-point defeat the last time they faced off against Jefferson, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bears won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Bulldogs 28-27. The win almost wasn't to be: the Bears were down 27-11 in the second quarter.

Gladewater didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Destin Sheridan and Madaxx Vasquez. Sheridan is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Gladewater got some further help from Mason Budro: he made 16 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Meanwhile, Sabine was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Tatum 45-10.

The victory made it two in a row for Gladewater and bumps their season record up to 4-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for Sabine, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.

Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Gladewater has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 276.6 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Sabine, though, as they've been averaging only 69.8 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?

Everything came up roses for Gladewater against Sabine when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 49-14 victory. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
