Baseball Recap: Lockwood Comes Up Short

Lockwood dropped their record down to 7-10 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Jasper Eagles by a score of 5-4. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2021.

Nik Thieman was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Lockwood's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-2 (and 1-8 when he doesn't). Braxton Garver also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

As for Jasper, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-6. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch.

On Jasper's side, Quentin Winans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Winans was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Treyton Ritchhart, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. Clayton Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Coming up, Lockwood will face off against McAuley Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jasper, they will square off against Ash Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
