Basketball Recap: Dobson Takes a Loss

Dobson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They took a blow against the Cesar Chavez Champions, falling 71-32.

Despite the loss, Dobson saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lana Shirley dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Shirley a new career-high in blocks (two). Susana Sheppard was another key player, putting up seven points.

Cesar Chavez got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Malia Woodberry out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine assists. Woodberry is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Victoria Ballard, who went 9 of 15 on her way to 21 points.

Dobson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for Cesar Chavez, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

Dobson wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-27 loss against Mesa on the 17th. Cesar Chavez has also already played their next game, an 86-16 victory against Browne on the 21st.
