Basketball Game Preview: Axtell Longhorns vs. Riesel Indians

The Axtell Longhorns will venture away from home to face off against the Riesel Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Axtell is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest defeat since December 5, 2024 on Friday. They were beaten by Marlin 49-22. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 987th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 476th).

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Riesel's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell to Marlin 46-41.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Riesel, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-4.

Axtell was taken down by Riesel 57-25 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Axtell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
