Baseball Recap: St. Pius X Triumphs

St. Pius X got themselves on the board against Brentwood on Thursday, but Brentwood never followed suit. They walked away with a 3-0 win over the Eagles. This was payback for the Lancers, who suffered a 12-8 defeat the last time these two teams met.

The result came thanks to Cayden Payne's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brennan Ervin, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. He has become a key player for St. Pius X: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-3 otherwise. Gunnar Hosay also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

St. Pius X's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Brentwood, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-6.

Looking ahead, St. Pius X is taking a road trip to square off against St. Francis Borgia at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Brentwood, they will challenge Crossroads at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
