East Newton dropped their record down to 12-9 on Monday, which also ended the team's five-game streak of wins. They fell 10-6 to the Mt. Vernon Mountaineers. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Mountaineers this season, with their most recent loss being a 10-3 defeat back in April.
As for Mt. Vernon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 28-10. Ten seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
For Mt. Vernon's part, Emily Schubert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up ten Ks.
At the plate, Rae Downing and Cheyenne Bieber did most of the damage at the plate: Downing went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI, while Bieber went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most triples Downing has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Molly Daniels, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
As of now, neither East Newton nor Mt. Vernon have any future games scheduled.
