Softball Recap: Port of Los Angeles Takes Down Cleveland in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Port of Los Angeles had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Cleveland Cavaliers as they made off with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Polar Bears, who have now won 13 games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Jimena Vargas made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Port of Los Angeles got a massive performance out of Nevaeh Randall, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Rochelle Watkins, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Port of Los Angeles always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They are a perfect 13-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win (which was Port of Los Angeles' 13th in a row) raised their record to 16-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Cleveland, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-21.

Coming up, Port of Los Angeles will face off against Verdugo Hills at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Dons have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. Cleveland does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
