St. John Paul II Catholic comes up short despite Hayden Umbdenstock's dominant performance

Recap: St. John Paul II Catholic Lions vs. NFL Yet Academy Eagles

The St. John Paul II Catholic Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They fell to NFL Yet Academy 67-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Despite the loss, St. John Paul II Catholic still got an impressive performance from Hayden Umbdenstock, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Umbdenstock has scored all season. Layne Dickens was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.

NFL Yet Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but EUDY LARA-CASTILLO led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of ABEL RUIZ, who scored 23 points along with three steals.

St. John Paul II Catholic has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for NFL Yet Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II Catholic will square off against Heritage Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for NFL Yet Academy, NFL Yet Academy and Trivium Prep will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Trivium Prep comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
