Preview: Clairton Bears vs. Union Area Scotties
Clairton is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Union Area is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Clairton Bears will take on the Union Area Scotties at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Clairton put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Laurel, posting a 44-7 victory at home. Given Clairton's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 163rd, while Laurel is ranked 372nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clairton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Drahcir Jones, who rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries. Jones' longest rush was for an incredible 88 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Wright, who threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.6% of his passes.
Meanwhile, Union Area didn't have too much trouble with Burgettstown at home on Friday as they won 51-37.
Clairton's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Union Area, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.
