Montezuma-Cortez has gone 9-1 against Centauri recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Panthers will face off against the Falcons at 3:00 p.m. Montezuma-Cortez is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.
Montezuma-Cortez's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against North Fork as they made off with a 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Cory Carver was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Samson Lein, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Montezuma-Cortez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Fork only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, Centauri came up short against Alamosa on Friday, falling 21-3.
Jace Haslett made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Montezuma-Cortez's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Centauri, their loss dropped their record down to 7-12.
Thursday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Montezuma-Cortez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .351. However, it's not like Centauri struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Montezuma-Cortez took their victory against Centauri in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
