Basketball Preview: Austin Mustangs vs. Waltrip Rams
The Austin Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Waltrip Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Waltrip took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Austin, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, Austin didn't have too much trouble with the Buffs at home as they won 39-23. The win made it back-to-back wins for Austin.
Meanwhile, Waltrip's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They were outmatched by Galena Park at home and fell 44-16. Waltrip was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
The win got Austin back to even at 11-11. As for Waltrip, they dropped their record down to 1-17 with that loss, which was their third straight at home.
Austin was able to grind out a solid victory over the Rams in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 38-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Austin since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
