Preview: West Carrollton Pirates vs. Piqua Indians
The West Carrollton Pirates will be playing at home against the Piqua Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Carrollton will be strutting in after a win while Piqua will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Friday, West Carrollton's game was all tied up 20-20 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Butler and snuck past 48-46.
Meanwhile, Piqua was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 33-27 to Stebbins. Piqua has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the defeat, Piqua got a solid performance out of Isaiah Martin, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Piqua were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stebbins only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
West Carrollton pushed their record up to 1-0 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Piqua, they now have a losing record at 1-2.
West Carrollton didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Piqua when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 52-47 victory. Will West Carrollton repeat their success, or does Piqua have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
