Baseball Recap: Pioneer Comes Up Short

Pioneer extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 16-15 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dexter Dreadnaughts. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pioneers have suffered since April 28th.

As for Dexter, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games.

For Dexter's part, they got a great performance from Mason McAllister as he didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. McAllister has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jack Sayler was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted over his last 11 matchups. Chance Sobbry also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

While Pioneer had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
