Basketball Recap: Battle Mountain Takes a Loss

Battle Mountain lost against Middle Park back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Battle Mountain Huskies took a blow against the Middle Park Panthers, falling 74-43. While losing is never fun, the Huskies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 217th, while the Panthers are ranked 60th).

When it comes to explaining why Battle Mountain lost, don't look at Blake Roberts. Despite the final result, he posted 11 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakob Methvin, who put up ten points and three steals.

Joey Gagnon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Middle Park, putting up 24 points along with eight boards and five assists. Luke Paugh was another key player, going 6 of 15 on his way to 13 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

Battle Mountain now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Middle Park, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Battle Mountain will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Evergreen at 3:00 p.m. on January 11, 2025. After both having extra time off, Middle Park and Steamboat Springs will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Middle Park is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.1 points per game this season.
