Recap: Anacostia Indians vs. Heritage Hurricanes
The Anacostia Indians came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 45-34 win over Heritage. Given Anacostia's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked sixth in District of Columbia, while Heritage is ranked 254th in Virginia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Anacostia's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Shayonna Nave, who scored 20 points. That's the first time this season that Nave scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Nayjah Duvall, who scored 12 points.
Anacostia pushed their record up to 5-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.2 points per game. As for Heritage, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.
Anacostia will head out on the road to face off against Woodson at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Heritage will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bethel at 5:00 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
