Softball Recap: Markesan Comes Up Short

If Markesan was feeling good fresh off their 10-3 takedown of Randolph on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets lost 10-4 to the Waterloo Pirates on Thursday. The Hornets haven't had much luck with the Pirates recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Kaylee Heberer made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

Markesan's loss dropped their record down to 8-11. As for Waterloo, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Markesan will challenge Rio/Fall River at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Rio/Fall River has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.6 runs per game on average), something Markesan will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Waterloo, they will face off against Lake Mills at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
