Softball Recap: Esperanza Wins Going Away Against Yorba Linda

While Esperanza put up some runs on Saturday, the same can't be said for Yorba Linda. The Esperanza Aztecs put the hurt on the Yorba Linda Mustangs with a sharp 8-0 win. The Aztecs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Not much got past Charley Duran, who gave up just three hits and racked up 14 Ks to keep Yorba Linda off the board. Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Duran.

At the plate, Esperanza got a big performance out of Julia Ireland, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Those stolen bases marked the first that Ireland stole this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayloran Sicard, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Esperanza was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Yorba Linda only posted a batting average of .115.

Esperanza moved to 2-3 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Yorba Linda, they dropped their record down to 3-4 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coincidentally, Esperanza and Yorba Linda will both be playing St. Paul the next time they take the field. Esperanza will head out to face St. Paul at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Yorba Linda will play them later in the day, at 9:00 a.m.
