            Softball Recap: Payson Lions vs. Orem Tigers        
        
		
        
        
            Payson proved they can win big  two weeks ago (they won by 17) and  on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a  victory as the  squad sidled past the Orem Tigers  8-7. Winning may never get old, but the Lions sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
 Peyton Staheli spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned  (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 21 Ks. Those 21  strikeouts set a new season-high mark for  her.

 At the plate, Payson let  Mahaila Buys and  Anna Marvin run wild. Buys  scored a  run while going 3-for-4, while  Marvin  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 1-for-2. Those  three  hits gave  Buys a new career-high. Another player making a difference was  Lucy Jessen, who  scored a  run and  stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Payson's win was  their third straight on the road, which  pushed their record up to 10-2. The  road  victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orem, their loss  ended  a  three-game streak of wins at home  and  dropped them to 10-8.
 Both  teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Payson will welcome Uintah  at 3:30  p.m.  on Thursday. As for Orem, they will be playing at home against Mountain View  at 3:30  p.m.  on Thursday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bruins have averaged an impressive 9.5  runs per game this season.
